This formidable implement is the most feared rattan school cane and the most severe of the school canes we offer. This cane is aptly christened "Eton Senior' after the eponymous school in UK where such a fearsome implement was allegedly in use by the Head of the school during the 1950s and 60s.

The Eton Senior Rattan School Cane is a severe implement that is a thick and moderately whippy cane that packs a very powerful wallop.

The Eton Senior School cane (with Paracord Handle) is approximately 34-36" (85-90 cms) long and 11.5- 12.5mm OR 12.5-13.5mm thick. (actual measurements may vary marginally from stated range)

They are crafted out of 1st quality Indonesian Kooboo rattan (with skin) which was the choice material for authentic school punishment canes. Kooboo Rattan (with Skin) is a light yet strong and very flexible plant material with remarkable durability and effectiveness and it is not an inferior material like a garden center stick or even craft grade rattan reed which is a much less denser material.

KOOBOO RATTAN CANES: Kooboo is a lighter and softer type of rattan compared to Dragon Canes. This rattan is a lighter and softer grade rattan and has a tendency to curve or arc and a not straight like dragon canes. While a durable rattan, these rattan canes are more expendable compared to dragon canes.

Materials

All our canes are crafted using rattan ( or Whangee bamboo root in case of Whangee Canes ) and the type of rattan and description of that type of rattan we use is listed on each individual listing.

We use Paracord or Kangaroo Leather for all our cane handles except in case of our Crook Handle School Canes.

Care Instructions

Rattan is a natural fibrous grass species that needs to be cared for and stored properly for long life and best shape and performance.

Hydrating Rattan Canes

Rattan needs an ideal amount of moisture to remain flexible and supple and prolong its life.  It needs to be periodically hydrated ( at least once a month ) to remain adequately hydrated.

You can hydrate your canes by standing it upright in about an inch of water column for 6-8 hours at least once a month.  The rattan will absorb water through the tip using capillary force and this is all the hydration it needs.  Let the tip air dry after hydration.

DO NOT dunk your canes in a bathtub frequently. In addition to destroying the handles, this will shorten the life of a rattan cane just as much as drying out. Rattan needs adequate moisture but not excess moisture.

On non coated/natural finish canes, you can also hydrate by wetting your hands and rub the cane shaft with the water residue on your hands. Make sure you do this only on the bare exposed shaft and not make the handle wet.  This can be done in addition to hydration by the tip periodically.

Cane Storage

DO NOT store rattan canes in dry environs   Store your rattan canes well away from a/c or heating vents or anything that will dry out the rattan.

Proper care and storage mentioned above will keep rattan canes in the best condition and prolong the life and lessen the chance of breaking due to drying out.
